Activities against Tobacco in Western Balkans and Turkey / 29 November and 2 December 2010

In the meetings which were held between the dates 29 November and 2 December 2010 in Brussels by Akif Köksal, several discussions were made with the representatives of such commissions and organizations as European Commission of Anti-Tobacco Activities in Western Balkans and Turkey, General Directorate for Enlargement, European Economics and European Social Commission, European Parliament, World Health Organization, European Cancer Organization, General Directorate for Taxation and Customs Union. The meetings were also held with the candidate countries and the representatives of various non-governmental organizations from those candidate countries.

29 NOVEMBER – 2 DECEMBER 2010 IN BRUSSELS,EUROPEAN COMMISSION OF ANTI – TOBACCO ACTIVITIES IN WESTERN BALKANS AND TURKEY

12th Smoking or World Health Conference was held in Helsinki between the dates / 3-8  August in 2003

The 12th Anti-Smoking or World Health Conference which is held normally once in three years was carried out in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, with the contributions of 2100 anti-smokers from 130 countries. Was also  the conference Turkish Anti-Smoking Association.

 

Tour of Turkmenistan / 17 February 2003

On 17 February 2003, the member of Board of association went to the capital Ashgabat as a guest of the deceased President of Turkmenistan Buyuk Saparmurat Turkmenbasi. The organization was carried out by Calik Holding Chairman and Turkmenbasi Deputy Ahmet Calik. The purpose of this visit was to present ‘The Real Fellows of Humanity’ award to Turkmenbasi for his attitude that forbidding smoking even in the streets and for his great efforts against smoking.

Chicago 11th World Conference / 21 Mayıs 2003

2000 was become a turning point in the fight against smoking.

Our association attended World Conferences on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) in Chicago which 4.500 delegates attended from 130 countries.

We also attended the WHO International Tobacco Control Framework Convention held in Geneva.
The first tobacco control framework was signed on 21.05.2003 at the 56. World Health Assembly held by WHO. During this assambly, the “FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON TOBACCO CONTROL” was signed by the countries in attandance.

First international treaty in the fight against tobacco “Tobacco Control Framework Agreement” was accepted on 21 May 2003, at the 56th World Health Organization World Health Assembly. This agreement was signed on behalf of our country by Minister of Health Dr. Recep Akdag on April 28,2004 and was accepted by the Parliament and published in the Official Journal of Turkish Republic.
