Antalya Provincial Health Director Op. Dr. İsmail Başıbüyük emphasized the need to make an immediate decision and take action to quit smoking.

Antalya Provincial Health Director Op. Dr. İsmail Başıbüyük stressed the importance of making an immediate decision and taking action to quit smoking, saying, “Do not postpone quitting smoking; do not wait for your health to force you. Make the decision now and start immediately.”

On February 9, World No Tobacco Day, to highlight the importance of quitting smoking, a blood donation campaign was organized in collaboration with the Antalya Provincial Health Directorate, the Green Crescent Society, the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, and the Turkish Anti-Smoking Association (TSSD). A booth was set up in the garden of the Provincial Health Directorate by the Western Mediterranean Regional Blood Center, where citizens and staff could voluntarily donate blood.

“Make the decision now and start immediately”

In a statement regarding the issue, Antalya Provincial Health Director Op. Dr. İsmail Başıbüyük stated that the most effective method to quit smoking is a person’s determination to quit. He said:
“If you smoke, you must acknowledge that it is a disease. Smoking addiction is a treatable condition. If you have tried quitting and found it difficult, you should choose to fight without judging or blaming yourself. Consider this process as a recovery journey, seek support, and continue your fight with determination. Do not postpone quitting smoking; do not wait for your health to force you. Make the decision now and start immediately. The best time to quit smoking is now.”
