HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION

Foundation and Early Years

The Türkiye Against Smoking Association (TSSD) was established on April 22, 1999, with the goal of reducing tobacco use and protecting public health in Türkiye. In its early years, the association organized campaigns and educational programs highlighting the adverse health effects of smoking and gained significant media coverage.

International Recognition and Success

The association’s effective work has been recognized internationally. In 2002, it was awarded the World Health Organization’s European Award for the Most Successful Non-Governmental Organization in Tobacco Control. This award demonstrates the association’s international success and impact in the fight against smoking.

Growth and Development

By 2005, the association had expanded its anti-smoking efforts, launching various national projects. These included anti-smoking educational programs in schools and workplaces, as well as support groups and rehabilitation programs for those wanting to quit smoking.

International Collaborations

Since 2010, the association has focused on international collaborations and contributed to global anti-smoking initiatives. It has undertaken joint projects with international organizations, adapting success stories and best practices from around the world to Türkiye. The association has represented Türkiye on international platforms, contributing to global anti-smoking strategies.

Legislation and Activities

One of the significant outcomes of the association’s pioneering efforts is the adoption of the Law No. 4207 on “Prevention of the Harms of Tobacco Products.” This legislation represents a crucial milestone in Türkiye’s fight against smoking and has reinforced the association’s impact in this area. The association has organized numerous events to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco products throughout this process.
